Sandplay Therapy
A Safe, Creative Space for Healing and Expression

A Safe, Creative Space for Healing and Expression

Sandplay Therapy is a gentle, nonverbal therapeutic approach, available only in person, that allows children, adolescents, and adults to explore their inner world through symbolic scenes created in a tray of sand. Using miniature figures, natural objects, and expressive materials, clients are invited to represent their experiences, emotions, and perceptions, often uncovering insights that can be difficult to put into words.

Sandplay Therapy can support individuals in:

  • Processing trauma without the pressure of verbal storytelling
  • Exploring emotions that feel confusing, layered, or overwhelming
  • Increasing self-awareness and emotional regulation
  • Rebuilding a sense of safety and inner stability
  • Strengthening problem-solving and relational skills
  • Expressing grief, anxiety, anger, or fear in symbolic and manageable ways
  • Accessing creativity, intuition, and personal insight

This approach provides a safe, contained space for reflection and growth, helping clients connect with their inner experiences, understand themselves more deeply, and develop tools for emotional wellbeing.

What to Expect in a Sandplay Session

Each session typically takes place in a quiet therapy room equipped with sand trays and a wide selection of miniature figures — people, animals, objects, nature elements, cultural symbols, structures, and more. Clients are invited to create a scene in the sand in whatever way feels right to them.

The therapist remains present, non-judgmental, and attentive, allowing the process to unfold naturally. After the creation is complete, clients are welcome (but not required) to talk about what they’ve made. The focus is never on making something “pretty” or “correct,” but on expression, exploration, and meaning-making.

For children, Sandplay often becomes a natural extension of play. For adolescents and adults, it can open a pathway to deeper emotional understanding that verbal dialogue alone may not reach.

When I first started seeing Sujatha, I was in a really dark place after coming out of an abusive relationship. I felt broken, anxious, and unsure of who I was anymore. From the very beginning, Sujatha made me feel completely safe, there was no judgment, just genuine care and understanding. She helped me make sense of everything I’d been through, and little by little, I started to rebuild my confidence. Sujatha guided me to see my own strength and helped me set boundaries that I never thought I could. Her kindness, patience and the way she explains things have trul...

Losing my child was the most painful experience of my life. I didn’t know how to cope or even begin to process what had happened. When I started seeing Sujatha, I was just trying to survive each day. She offered such a warm and understanding space where I could talk, cry, and just be without feeling like I had to hold it all together. Sujatha never rushed me or tried to “fix” the grief, instead, she helped me learn how to live with it, to find small ways to cope and honour my child’s memory. Her compassion and gentle guidance have helped me start to find moments o...

Working with Sujatha has been one of the best decisions I took in my life. She took me under her wing at my lowest and has helped me see new perspectives, explore different aspects of reality and shown me that there is always light at the end of the tunnel even when you don’t believe it. I started working with her at the beginning of 2024 and it was safe to say, I was at the lowest I could be potentially, after going through quite traumatic events and suffered a lot of loss, betrayal and pain in both physical and emotional ways, I didn’t think I would recover. I have been working with Sujatha over the past 10 months. This is the first time I have worked with a therapist and I am really happy that I chose to work with Sujatha. She has really helped me better understand myself, and shed new light on life experiences and relationships. Her perspective has helped me with my personal growth and she has given me the tools to take a pause and assess situations in a different way to how I would have before I started therapy. Sujatha approaches all of our sessions with empathy, professionalism and care. This has helped me really...

Suja has helped my son enormously using Play Therapy. She has been kind, gentle and has developed an amazing bond with him. Suja has been a great comfort to me using her skills to support us through the difficult time around a divorce. I trust her with my son implicitly. She has helped him to process and cope through challenges I couldn’t protect him from, breaking down those complicated big feelings and become a stronger person with important life skills going forward. I cannot recommend her enough. She is always professional and works very hard to be accommodati...

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Sujatha over the last two years. She has displayed a professional, kind, caring and flexible approach. Sujatha has delivered sessions to vulnerable children requiring a safe space to speak freely and feel listened to. The children Sujatha has worked with have formed positive relationships with her and have engaged well. Each week they look forward to their session, this is entirely down to the environment Sujatha has created and the calm approach she adopts. The children have found the sessions fun, engaging and useful...

Having been going for counseling with Sujatha over the past few months, Sujatha has helped me open up and look into my childhood experiences growing up by understanding how such events have and continue to impact me today. She has helped me understand how previous experiences can have a psychological impact on one’s mental well-being; values; morals and ultimately, shape them into the person that they are today. Despite some previous experiences being difficult to talk about, she has calmly and empathetically helped me question and explore my childhood by being cu...
